Dr Wendy Harcourt is Senior Programme Director and Editor Development at the Society for International Development (SID) in Rome. She holds a PhD in History from the Australian National University in 1987 and she has over 20 years of professional experience in research, editing and programme management and direction in international development. In 1988 she was appointed both as associate editor of the journal Development, the quarterly journal of SID and as programme coordinator of the SID women in development programme. She was then appointed in 1995 Editor and Director of Programmes and in 2004 as Editor and Senior Advisor for the Society. In addition she has produced and edited over 100 journals, reports and newsletters, organized numerous regional and international workshops and conferences. She participated in research projects on various aspects of gender and development with universities, UN agencies and civil society organizations, edited four books in 1994,1997, 1999 and 2005 written one book published in 2009 and contributed to many scholarly books and journals. She is immediate past Chair of Women in Development Europe (WIDE), member of the European Feminist Forum Steering Committee, The Feminist Dialogues Coordinating Group, the Gender working group of the European Association for Research Development Institutes (EADI), Life Member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge and on the board of the International Feminist Journal of Politics and International Women’s Association for Human Rights, The Great Transition Initiative and the International Feminist Working Group on Biotechnologies. Her main research focus are development policy from a rights and gender perspective with a special interest in sustainable development, development alternatives, globalization, communication, culture, and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
